In a world that rarely slows down, finding moments of stillness and intentional living has become essential. The latest immersive experience at Najil Chak offered exactly that: a deeply grounding journey into the Japanese tradition of Chadō & artistic expression through a hands-on mindful pottery workshop.

A Traditional Matcha Ceremony Guided by Japanese Tea Host Momoca
The experience began with a rare and intimate authentic matcha ceremony, led by Japanese tea host Momoca. More than just preparing tea, this ceremony revealed the profound philosophy behind Chadō: The Art of the Japanese Tea Ceremony—where every gesture carries meaning and every pause invites presence.
Participants were guided through the art of serving matcha, learning how each movement—from whisking to presenting the bowl—is rooted in centuries-old Japanese tradition. Momoca shared insights into the cultural background of matcha, tracing its origins from ceremonial practices to its role in modern mindful living.
The ceremony emphasized:
Mindfulness and intention in every action
The importance of harmony, respect, purity, and tranquility
How slowing down enhances sensory awareness

Each sip of matcha became an invitation to reconnect, each intentional noise became part of the deep listening of our present actions, each gesture to one and other became the rhytm of a collaborative practise to the self, conscious movement, and mindful living.
The Mindful Benefits of Matcha Practice
Beyond its rich flavor and vibrant green color, matcha is known for its calming yet energizing properties. Participants explored how this ritual supports:
Mental clarity and focus
Stress reduction through mindful breathing
A deeper sense of grounded awareness

From Ceremony to Creation: A Mindful Pottery Workshop
Following the ceremony, the experience transitioned seamlessly into a mindful pottery workshop, where participants tapped into their creative energy while maintaining the same sense of presence cultivated during the tea ritual. We had the opportunity to apply the knowledge gained during the tea ceremony, exploring the tradition and aesthetics of Japanese ceramics used in matcha serving.
Guided by the principles of Chadō: The Art of the Japanese Tea Ceremony and wabi-sabi—the Japanese aesthetic that embraces imperfection and transience—attendees were invited to slow down and create without judgment toward themselves or their art.

Exploring Wabi-Sabi Through Clay
In this hands-on session, participants crafted their own authentic matcha bowls, learning about the traditional characteristics that define them:
A design that fits naturally in the hands
Natural textures and earthy tones
Imperfections & marks that become part of
the Art of Appreciation during the ceremony
Rather than striving for perfection, the focus was on embracing flaws as beauty—a powerful reminder in both art and life.
Creativity Meets Mindfulness
The pottery workshop encouraged:
Flow state creativity, free from pressure
A deeper connection between mind and body
Expression through tactile, sensory experience
